Decision on Carnforth children's home
Plans to turn two houses in Carnforth into a children's home were given the go-ahead on Monday.
Lancaster City Council's planning committee granted Mr P Wood, of Copy Lane, Caton, permission to turn 74-76 Kellet Road into an eight-bedroom children's home for 11 to 16-year-olds.
Councillors recognised the need for such a facility in Carnforth and this home will be the only one of its kind in the town.
Ward Coun Bob Roe, however, expressed concern that the children's home may be used to house children from outside the Carnforth area.
There was a children's home in Bolton-le-Sands run by Lancashire County Council, which closed down several years ago.
The plans for the property include eight bedrooms on the first floor and a kitchen, living room, games room and sleeping quarters for one member of staff on the ground floor. Conditions on the application included a new wall to be constructed along the boundary with an adjoining property, 72 Kellet Road, and cycle parking to be provided.
