Shakespeare: AN all-male production of Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing comes to Carnforth's Leighton Hall tonight, Friday.
A seven strong all-male company will play no less than 20 male and female roles in an unconventional UK tour of Shakespeare's sparklingly witty romantic comedy.

Having survived their wettest tour on record last summer – incredibly with only one show cancelled – the Gloucestershire-based Festival Players will again set out to bring cosmopolitan audiences their fun and easily digestible Shakespeare.

The company promises to play out a right royal battle of the sexes for all the family within the grounds of Leighton Hall.

Director Michael Dyer said: "Although it might seem unusual today to field an all-male cast it is in fact totally authentic – we are just following in the footsteps of Shakespeare's own Elizabethan Globe Theatre when all the roles were taken by men."

The grounds open at 6pm and the show starts at 7.30pm. Audiences should bring their own seats and warm clothes.

Tickets, priced £12.50 (£10 concessions) are available on 01524 734474 or 01524 582808.

Film
THE latest instalment of the Batman films starring Christian Bale hits Lancaster's Vue cinema screens this weekend.

The Dark Knight reunites Bale with director Christopher Nolan and takes Batman across the world in his quest to fight a growing criminal threat.

With the help of Lieutenant Jim Gordon and District Attorney Harvey Dent, Batman has been making headway against local crime...until a rising criminal mastermind known as The Joker unleashes a fresh reign of chaos across Gotham City.

There is still plenty of work to be done for Batman if Gotham is ever to rid itself of its villainous underbelly.

The film also stars Maggie Gyllenhaal, Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Cillian Murphy and features an exceptional performance from the late Heath Ledger.

The Dark Knight screens from Thursday July 24.

Swing
THE new season at the Lancaster Grand Theatre kicks off with a swing this September.

For over thirty years the Pasadena Roof Orchestra has delighted audiences all over the world with its mix of swing and hot dance music.

Swing is much more than a musical genre, it personifies a lust for life with its infectious beat.

In contrast to many other musical genres, swing has never really gone out of fashion over the decades, particularly in recent years.

Not only is the Pasadena Roof Orchestra bringing its music to audiences all over the world, it is introducing new generations of young musicians to the genre.

The Pasadena Roof Orchestra play the Grand Theatre, Lancaster, on September 12 at 7.30pm.

To join them on this infectious journey book your tickets now.

Tickets, priced £15 (£16 concessions), are available from the box office on 01524 64695.

Concert
THE Cologne New Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra play Lancaster Cathedral tonight, Friday, as part of their Great Britain Tour 2008.

The musicians are a professional chamber orchestra that is extended to a symphony orchestra several times a year.

Despite this fact, or maybe even because of it, the Cologne New Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra have been enchanting audiences for more than 30 years with their electrifying music.

In this latest tour they will perform works by Rossini, Mozart, Mendelssohn and Purcell.

The concert takes place at 7.30pm at Lancaster's Cathedral.

Tickets are available from Lancaster's Tourist Information Centre in Castle Hill or on the door one hour prior to the concert.

Wrestling
THE world famous circus ring at Blackpool Tower has made way for a wrestling ring as stars from leading stateside federations
challenge the best of British talent.

The American Superslam Season sees the colourful kings of the canvas at the tower every Friday, until August 29.

Last year over a quarter of a million fans caught the shows on tour throughout the UK and this is your chance to cheer on the British stars of wrestling as they square up to contenders including a 6ft 9in American known as 'Hannibal'.

The home squad is headed up by Liverpool's Robbie Brookside, currently
riding high after winning the Superslam Heavyweight title for Britain.

Leading the transatlantic charge are hard-hitting French Canadian WWE tag stars, Quebec-born Pierre Lafitte and partner Rene Dupree.
Tickets, priced £10 (£8 concessions), are now on sale for the Friday nights shows. Book early for reserved seating.

Kids can meet the stars with a special VIP backstage pass (£5 per child). As well as meeting the contenders, they will also receive a special souvenir pack full of photos and facts about their favourite stars.
