Some very special visitors will be chugging into Carnforth this weekend as the famous railway station pays tribute to the age of steam.
The world famous Hogwarts Express, used in the Harry Potter films, will be on show to families and rail enthusiasts for the first time this Friday and Saturday from 10am to 5pm, adjacent to the station.

The special anniversary weekend pays tribute to the last days of steam when exactly 40 years ago, in the days running up to the last steam train journey, people flocked to Carnforth to pay their respects.

The event, which is being hosted by West Coast Railways in association with the Railway Magazine, will also include the reopening of Carnforth Depot for the first time in a decade, and the unveiling of another famous engine The Scots Guardsmen, which featured in the 1936 film 'Night Mail'.

Visitors will again be able to see steam engines (in steam!) and a very large collection of vintage and modern diesel engines and coaches. There will also be vintage vehicles & dozens of trade stands inside the locomotive sheds.

It is also expected that as well as the steam engines, around 20 diesel & electric locomotives will be on display representing the last 50 years of railway history.

Tickets to the event cost £15, and car parking is available on site. For more information visit www.westcoastrailways.co.uk.
