A HOST of top names from the soap opera world will be descending on Morecambe this weekend for a charity football match.
The soap stars will be helping to raise much-needed funds for CancerCare, who are hoping to raise £1.5 million during their Silver Jubilee year towards a new facility at their Slynedales home.

The appeal has already raised around £190,000, which includes the proceeds from a recent golf day at Kirkby Lonsdale golf club and a pink luncheon for ladies.

The match, at Morecambe FC's Christie Park ground on Sunday, will include appearances from Coronation Street actors Ryan Thomas (who plays Jason Grimshaw) and Trevor Dwyer (who has also appeared in Casualty), as well as Hollyoaks stars Jamie Lomas (who plays Warren Fox), Nico Mirallegro (Newt) and Anthony Quinlan (Gilly Roach).

Royle Family and Two Pints of Lager star Ralf Little will also make the trip, along with Alex Lawler from Sky One's Dream Tream, The Match and Mike Bassett England Manager, Elliott Tittensor from Shameless and Archie Kelly (Kenny Senior from Phoenix Nights).

Former Manchester City player and manager Asa Hartford is also due to make an appearance.

Ex-Brookside and Hollyoaks star Leon Lopez will also be at Christie Park, along with singer Alana Estrella, who will be signing autographs and giving out posters and CDs.

Martyn Butlin of Heysham Power Stations, who are organising the event with CancerCare, said: "It will be a great day out, in recent years we've had 4,000 people at the game and if we can beat that this time we'll make thousands for this great charity."

The gates open at noon, with the game kicking off at 1pm. Admission at the turnstiles for the day is £5 for adults and £3 for children - or £12 for a family ticket.
