Neil Bennetts was elected as club and first team captain for the Vale of Lune for the second time at the club's recent AGM.
He held the same position in 2006-07 when the Vale were sixth in North Two West. Bennetts made his debut towards the end of the 1994-95 season at Powder House Lane against Lancaster University in March 1995.
He joined a cohort of young talented pl
ayers that helped to first stabilise, and then turn round the club's position after they had suffered three relegations between the 1990-91 and 1993-94 seasons.
He has made 342 first team appearances, scored 37 tries, kicked 26 conversions and three penalties, plus one dropped goal. A versatile, experienced threequarter, he is equally at home either at stand-off, full-back or in the centre.
Bennetts is a one club player, is rightly passionate about the Vale, and like many others, the hurt following the relegation from North Two West last season went deep, but the new skipper, and those around him, will the facing the coming challenges head on.
Vale have received a bye in the first round of the EDF Energy Senior Vase, the first time the Vale have played in this particular national competition. The second round is on September 27.
Vale members and supporters are urged to complete the RFU Landscape Survey about the future development of the game. This easy to follow questionnaire can be accessed via the Miller Homes website or the RFU.
