Morecambe 91-4
*Lancaster 90
Twenty20 Cup
MORECAMBE may have beaten Lancaster in the first of the Twenty20 derbies on Thursday night but they will need a repeat performance at Lune Road tonight, Friday to seal a finals spot at Blackpool on Sunday.

Morecambe knocked off the 91 runs needed
for four wickets but failed to overtake Lancaster's run rate meaning Lancaster will qualify with a win next week.

Lancaster's opening pair of skipper Mike Stevens and Jamie Heywood made an excellent start. They scored at almost a run a ball for the first eight overs with Heywood in particular looking in good nick.

Stevens (17) was first to fall in the ninth over, the first by Morecambe pro Bruce Martin, Lewis Edge showing lightning speed behind the stumps to find Stevens just out of his crease.

The Lancaster order then fell apart after Heywood was out for a good 37, failing to find the gap on the leg boundary.

Any hopes Lancaster had of reaching three figures went in the 17th over from Gareth Pedder. With his first ball, he had Iain Burstow caught by Mark Lomas then in two identical dismissals, he had Ryan Nelson and Paul Sparrow stumped by Edge. Edge added another stumping with Liam Moffat the last to go.

Morecambe's openers began well with Phil Thornton and Mark Lomas putting on 51 for the first wicket. Thornton went on the attack, particularly in the seventh over when Walling went for 24, including three sixes.

When he was out for 39, Lomas, Martin, Phil Dennison and Vishal Goyal took Morecambe to the brink before Pedder hit the winning runs in the 18th over.

* MORECAMBE pro Bruce Martin will head up two coaching camps at Woodhill Lane on July 29-31 and August 19-21, sessions running from 10am to 3pm.

The sessions are organised by Excel Sports Coaching, a new company run by former Morecambe FC player Michael Knowles.

The price is £45 per child for three days. To book contact Knowles on 07511 733652.
