Family's moving tribute to man killed in city

A WELL-KNOWN businessman was killed in a road accident in King Street on Monday lunch-time.
Sadhu Singh, 75, was knocked down at 12.50pm near to the former Regal Cinema in Lancaster. He died in hospital several hours later.
Mr Singh was an established figure in the city, he had a fashion stall in Lancaster market for more than 30 years and also had family shops in the city, Morecambe and Barrow.
He was devoted family man with five sons – Kalwant, Bachter, Pramjit, Kannan and Shamsher, 12 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
His family said: "Dad was an amazingly hard worker who did everything he could to help his family. He was a very popular man who loved to keep busy. Everyone who knew him called him Mr Singh. Despite being in his 70s he never slowed down and his death has been a shock to us all. He will be sadly missed".
Floral tributes adorn the lampposts close to the scene, including a touching message from his widow reading: "How can I carry on now that you have left me?"
A note from his five sons reads: "You were always there for us when we needed you – who will we turn to now?"
A further tribute from his grandchildren and great grandchildren reads: "You were the best granddad ever. We will miss you and always love you."
Mr Singh, of Albany Road, Morecambe, was born in the holy city of Amritsar in India.
He came to the area in the late 1950s and became well known as a fashion retailer.
His close friends at The Carpetman store in King Street said: "We knew him for more than 20 years. He was a customer but also a very good friend, a great character and a true gentleman.
"He used to come in here all the time for chats before picking his grandkids up from school. He doted on them and would talk about them all the time. He was really funny and a genuinely nice man.
"I don't think he ever had a bad word to say about anyone. I think everybody will have known him and liked him."
n Police are investigating the incident which took place close to the junctions of Queen Street and Spring Garden Street. Nobody has been arrested in connection with Mr Singh's death.
