Is this what we call civilised?

IT was quite inappropriate and out of order for Ms Dunn to write in her official capacity as Women's Officer of the Lancaster University Students' Union threatening political blackmail against the Lancaster MP to influence his vote on the forthcoming Abortion Bill.
Does she intend to lead her band of sisters to the polling booths to oust him?

The 1967 Abortion Act was designed to permit 'legal' termination for some very strong medical reason; everyone was assured that 'abortion on demand' would not follow be
cause of the strong safeguards (eg, two doctors' signatures; Ms Dunn calls these 'unnecessary obstructions').

Subsequently, the act has been consistently abused (with, sad to say, professional collusion), so that nowadays we have 'abortion on demand' and hundreds of thousands of human foetuses have been destroyed as if objectionable, non-human detritus of no account.

This holocaust reminds the historically-minded of the way the holocaust went on and was tolerated in 1930s and 1940s Germany when Jews were regarded as non-human and of no account. Once again, an advanced country has to ask itself whether it is really civilised.

I write as a retired GP, who worked before and after 1967; a non-Catholic who has, with a very heavy heart, signed forms to permit termination when it was necessary.

Our experience with the Abortion Act should act as a dreadful warning to those who believe a Euthanasia Bill can safely be passed; no matter what 'safeguards' were put in place, it would swiftly be abused and it would not be very safe to be elderly.
