Handlebars ‘impale’ cyclist after accident near university

A cyclist was airlifted to hospital after the handlebars of a bike reportedly became impaled in his groin after a collision.

Lancaster fire service raced to the cycle path near Lancaster University campus to help the cyclist who was injured in a collision.

This incident happened just before 6pm on Wednesday.

A spokesman for the fire service said: “A cyclist has had handlebars impaled in his groin.”

A spokesman for the North West Air Ambulance said: “We were called out to an RTC on the cycle path near Lancaster University.

“The incident involved a male cyclist with a suspected leg injury.”

The cyclist was flown to Royal Preston Hospital.
