A PhD student at Lancaster University has loaned us this selection of photos in the hope they can be returned to surviving members of the soldiers families.
Since he began his PhD, Fred McGlade of Caton has been given these pictures.

Fred says the individual portrait pictures are almost certainly from the 1914-1918 war. It is understood all the lads pictured were from Brookhouse and Caton and joined up in 1914. Some have names with them, others not.

The larger group photo is probably from the late 1950s to late 1960s.

Fred suggests this as the rifles shown are Lee Enfield 303s and were taken out of service in the late 1960s to early 1970s.

The blouse type uniform was also a feature of National Service.

There is an almost unreadable inscription at the bottom of the photo which we think says 'York'.

Glover's of Richmond processed the picture.

If you can shed any light on these photos, please WRITE to Louise Bryning at the Lancaster Guardian or email louise.bryning@lancasterguardian.co.uk
