City's Lenny Reid scored the only goal of the game to set up a clash with Rugby Town at Giant Axe on October 18.

Stimpson was pleased with the win, City's first in a knockout competition since January 2007.

He said: "I had no regrets about some of the losses in the cups over the last couple of season because I took the opportunity to rotate players.

"But we always want to do well in the FA Cup and the Trophy and so after the massive disappointment of losing in the FA Cup to Salford, it was nice to win and pick up a bit of prize money at last.

"We are looking fairly solid at the moment. Teams that win leagues need to win ugly now and again and on Saturday we showed dogged determination against a Leek side who are decent and were unbeaten.

"The only slight disappointment for us was that we had chances to break and put the game ot bed with a second goal but we didn't take them.

"Over the 90 minutes we did shade it," he added.

City beat Bacup Borough 5-2 on Tuesday, January 9, 2007 in the Lancashire United Co-operatives Challenge Cup.
