LANCASTER City made the best possible start to their Unibond North season on Saturday, as they overcame league favourites FC United of Manchester 2-1.
See SlideshowGoals from Ian Stevens and Jimmy Love gave City a two-goal lead, before Jerome Wright's 93rd minute strike made them sweat to the final whistle.
United came out of the blocks quicker and City keeper Mark Thornley was forced to save from Rory Patterson and Anthony Hargreaves, before City striker Leon Gierke should have given his side the lead after half-an-hour.
Gierke sprung the United offside trap, but having rounded the keeper dragged his finish wide under pressure.
This brought City to life and Entwistle went close with a right-foot shot from distance before Stevens grabbed his debut goal in first-half stoppage time.
The returning Ryan Zico Black swung in a left-wing corner and Stevens lost his marker to fire home a bullet header.
United pushed hard for the equaliser after the beak, but City held firm, with Scott Greenwood particularly impressive.
Thornley was called into action on a few occasions as City were pinned back, but United created few chances before Love sealed it for City.
Black relieved the pressure on the home side with a long clearance down the left in the 93rd minute, and sub Carl Waters beat Liam Spencer to the ball and took it past him to the line.
Waters' pull-back found Love's late run into the box and gave him a simple finish from eight-yards.
From the kick-off United swept straight forward and David Chadwick knocked a long-ball down to Wright, who cut inside and lifted a shot over Thornley to make it a tense finish for City.
